Congratulations to our newest Solo Librarians Division Board Members for 2013. Thanks to all of our new board members for volunteering to help the Solos and to all those members who voted in the election. There are still Executive and Advisory Board roles available for those who are interested in getting involved. Please contact Alice Desrocher directly (alice.desrocher <AT> arcelormittal <DOT> com) if you would like to find out about these opportunities.
Julie Snyder – Secretary (Executive Board)
Julie Snyder is the Corporate Librarian and Archivist for Shure Incorporated, based out of Niles, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. When asked what she does, she finds it easiest to say that she is a Microphone Librarian. The more detailed answer is that she works as a solo librarian for a global organization to provide reference and research assistance to the people who design, manufacture, and sell microphones and other audio products, as well as to all supporting functions throughout the Company. She is also a “lone arranger,” managing the Shure Corporate Archives, which contains products, documents, photos and more, dating from the Company’s founding in 1925. She has been working in libraries for almost 20 years (as a solo for the last eight), and is excited to have the opportunity to give back to the division that has helped her so much.
Charissa Jefferson – Public Relations Chair (Advisory Board)
Charissa Jefferson is a research librarian for the Milken Institute and music cataloger for the Milken Archive of American Jewish Music in Santa Monica, California. She is within the first five years of her career as a librarian. She has been involved in SLA since being an MLS student in the first CSUN/UNT Cohort student chapter, serving as co-president in her final academic year. She previously earned a Master of Arts in Cultural Studies and plays classical music and enjoys world dance. She is fascinated with the Italian language, which has helped in her music cataloging and playing. Charissa is newly married and is excited for her honeymoon in Italy in the fall of 2013!

Voting closes at 5:00PM EST on Wednesday, December 12, 2012.
The Solo Division is very fortunate to have two excellent candidates for this position. Their biographical information is below.
Julie Snyder
Julie Snyder is the Corporate Librarian and Archivist for Shure Incorporated, based out of Niles, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. When asked what she does, she finds it easiest to say that she is a Microphone Librarian. The more detailed answer is that she works as a solo librarian for a global organization to provide reference and research assistance to the people who design, manufacture, and sell microphones and other audio products, as well as to all supporting functions throughout the Company. She has been working in libraries for almost 20 years (as a solo for the last eight), and is excited to have the opportunity to give back to the division that has helped her so much.
Tanya Whippie
Tanya Whippie is the sole librarian at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. For the last two years she has been repairing the damage of a several year closure. While resuscitating the collection she has also been very involved with the process of preparing the agency and its workforce to engage modern knowledge management initiatives. This is challenging work and the support of the Solo Librarians Division has been an crucial support system. By serving as Secretary, Tanya hopes to deepen and strengthen the community and connections within the division. When she needs a break from finding ways to connect people and knowledge, Tanya travels the world seeking adventure and additions to her camel collection. She prefers the cute and fluffy camels to the ornery and spitting ones. Thank you!
