Joyful Negotiation
Speaker: Mary Ellen Bates
Many more things are negotiable than we may think; in fact, much of life involves negotiation. And the effects of not negotiating can be cumulative. This presentation helps you identify who is “the boss of you”, develop your ability to “reframe” challenging situations, and build tools to enhance your negotiation skills and approach every situation as negotiable.

Self-Defense for Librarians
Speaker: Evan Dzierzynski
Personal safety is especially important during conferences when many of us are visiting an unfamiliar city. In this workshop on self-defense techniques Evan Dzierzynski, Owner and Lead Coach of NOVA Self Defense, will show us how we can defend ourselves safely.
Ticket Price: $20 members; $15 students, $30 non-members

The Resilient Solo
Panelists: Catherine Lavallee-Welch, Dan Trefethen, Anne Hengehold
Let’s look beyond “Success Stories” at ways that current and former solo librarians have maintained their relevance and resilience as information professionals, not only in this challenging economy but over the course of their careers. Panelists will share their career paths and experiences and attendees will have time to ask question and discuss the skills and personal work needed to persevere.
2:00 pm to 3:30 pm
Gerry Hurley Memorial Leadership Program:
Leading From the Library: How Can I Be A Leader When _________ ?
Panelists: Ulla de Stricker, Gloria Zamora, Jill Hurst-Wahl
In this interactive session, a panel of three SLA leaders will offer their practical experience to help you overcome leadership challenges you face in your work. Attendees will have two minutes to explain their leadership challenge and our panel will have five minutes to respond. This session will be facilitated and attendees are encouraged to share and participate. During the last ten minutes attendees will have a chance to identify and share the “golden nuggets” they will takeaway from this session.
